Cancer is the body’s cells going wrong.

When cells in your body divide, all the information in your DNA is copied into the new cells. Sometimes, there are errors in this process and mutations occur in your DNA.

The body has many inbuilt ways to cope with these mutations, usually safety checks identify dangerous mutations and these cells are marked for cell death. But occasionally, mutations lead to uncontrolled cell growth and this is cancer.

Uncontrolled cell growth can occur for many different reasons and therefore ‘cancer’ is actually a term which covers over 200 different diseases!
