I think it probably won’t talk to my Samsung Galaxy S6!

But more seriously: I’m not sure that I would use a smart watch to its full potential. I just don’t need one. I always have my phone in my hand, and I really need to see things on that large screen – and particularly for using the touch screen, I think a phone suits my needs more than a watch. I don’t use the fitness features on it, and I usually use navigation in the car. Oh and they seem like a lot of money!

      Hi

I quite like it. I don’t own one – although I have an ipad and a macbook pro, I don’t have an iphone so it probably would not be a lot of use. I have not ruled out getting on (or an equivalent non-apple alternative) in the future, but as will all such technology, waiting for the second or third generation and seeing how the technology develops makes sense.

The feature which is most exciting is being able to use it to pay for things. I just attended Download festival (a rock/metal music festival not far from Nottingham) and they give you wristband that you pre-load money onto and you swiped it against a receiver to pay for everything on site. It was really quick and effective – pretty much removed all queuing for food and drink. I can see how apple pay or whatever its called would be great.

Well it’s apple so the design is perfectly modern, all smooth edges and soft features. But honestly, give me an analogue watch any day, smooth tick and 3 hands are the only technological features I need on my wrist.

If we’re talking about smart watches in general (I think the iWatch is lacking certain parts) the biometrics that people now have access to is fairly impressive. Just need some clever apps to really use them.

Fairly unusually for a physicist, I’m not much of a gadget freak. I don’t even have a smartphone (well, I do, but I literally never use it: it’s in my handbag at the moment, doubtless with a flat battery and an expired SIM card). So I am the last person to ask about this!
