      Your stomach rumbles all the time to some extent, due to food and gas passing through the intestines, it’s just that you can’t usually hear it from outside.

      However, when your intestines are empty, these noises are amplified. When you are hungry, your stomach chemicals that signal the brain to start stomach and intestine muscle contractions as your body prepares for the arrival of food. As these pass through your intestines, the pockets of gas will rumble and you can hear it from outside your body.
